Master’s Degrees - List of Courses

I chose M:DS because I was looking for something that would set me apart in the labour market and, above all, to encourage my curiosity about the ‘world of data’. The M:DS offers a holistic view of Data Science, from all the families of algorithms suitable for solving the most diverse problems to the infrastructure needed to run these algorithms on large volumes of data. There is not only a focus on theoretical foundations, but also on their practical applications in a real environment through the realisation of various hands-on projects. At the end of my first year at M:DS, I got my first job as a Data Scientist in the healthcare industry. I believe this was only possible because of the experience I gained during my master's degree, which equipped me with the know-how I needed to carry out my professional duties on a daily basis and with the mindset of keeping up with the state of the art in order to constantly evolve.

After graduating in Biology, I decided to apply for the Master's in Data Science (M:DS) at FCUP because I was looking to learn not only how to deal with various types of data, but also how to extract correct, quality information from it. I realised it was the right choice because today's job market needs people with these skills in many areas. M:DS was undoubtedly an excellent way to get the training I was looking for. What's more, the fact that the students have different basic backgrounds gives a very interesting dynamic to the classes and group work, as it encourages interaction between people with different ways of thinking, something I consider fundamental in an area as interdisciplinary as data science. Choosing M:DS proved to be a great challenge that certainly lived up to my expectations.
