José M. Castro-Lopes received his MD and PhD from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) and worked at the Max-Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Munich, the School of Pharmacy in London and the Unit 161 of the INSERM in Paris. Currently, he is full professor and chair of Pain Medicine at the FMUP, and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Social Support, Health and Wellbeing at the University of Porto.
Prof. Castro-Lopes main research field is the neurobiology and epidemiology of chronic pain, also contributing for clinical research. He has led several national and European research projects and participated in the board of some national and international scientific societies.
