Artur Santos Silva (Oporto, May 1941) has a Degree in Law, University of Coimbra (1963), Stanford Executive Program, Stanford University (1985). Honorary Doctor by University of Oporto (2010) and by Universidade Nova de Lisboa (2017). He was the founder of the BPI Group (1981) and CEO (1981/2004); Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2004 until 2017 and currently Honorary Chairman. He was Secretary of State to the Treasury (1975/76); Deputy Governor of the Bank of Portugal (1977/78); Senior Manager of Banco Português do Atlântico (1968/75). Trustee (2002-2012) and President of the Board of Director of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2012-2017); Non-Executive Member of the Board of Directors of Jerónimo Martins (April 2004 to April 2013); Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Casa da Música Foundation (2006/2012); President of the Commission for Republic Centenary Celebrations (2008/2011); Chairman of the General Board of University of Coimbra (2009/2012), and Chairman of the General Board of University of Oporto (2017-2021). Since May 2017, he is Trustee of Foundation La Caixa (2017 – ).
