Assessment Strategy: Managing and Supporting Assessment Designers

The TALOE Partnership is organising its second webinar of the “Talks on E-assessment and Learning Outcomes” on 18 February 2015, starting at 11:00 CET. The webinar’s title is “Assessment Strategy: Managing and Supporting Assessment Designers“. The presenters from Dublin City University, Elaine Walsh and James Brunton are going to introduce their project launched in 2012 by the humanities programme team of the Open Education Unit, aimed at enhancing the quality of assessment writing. In 2014 the team developed an online assessment writers resource and delivered associated training workshops. One of the main realisations of the project was that there is need for the distinct linkage of programme learning outcomes, module learning outcomes, assessment type, evaluation criteria and feedback criteria.

Recording of webinar “Content analysis and critical thinking – An assessment study” is available

A successful webinar entitled “Content analysis and critical thinking – An assessment study” was held on 21st January, as the opening session of TALOE monthly series of“Talks on E-assessment and Learning Outcomes”. The lecturer, Antonella Poce was speaking about the project of the University Roma Tre that assessed the following hypothesis: with providing further cultural insights according to well-defined models on which to undertake guided discussions, the critical thinking skills of students increase. The students’ written productions were treated with a lexicometric analysis using the Taltac software, and with content analysis, through adaptation of the Newman, Webb and Cochrane (1997) model. The results were presented during the webinar.

Webinar series on E-assessment and Learning Outcomes

The TALOE Partnership announces a series of webinars entitled “Talks on E-assessment and Learning Outcomes” organised by one of the partners, University Computing Centre SRCE. The first lecture of this series is to be held on 21st January 2015 starting at 11.00 CET with the title of “Content analysis and critical thinking – An assessment study” by Antonella Poce, researcher and lecturer in experimental pedagogy at the University Roma Tre, Italy. She is going to speak about the project of the University Roma Tre that constructed a model to increase critical thinking skills and ways how to evaluate them.

The monthly series is suggested for educators, educational developers, staff in learning support and those with responsibility for the management and quality assurance of assessment with the aims of:

  • putting in focus the learning outcomes and assessment methods in e-learning;
  • helping teachers and trainers decide on the e-assessment tools and processes;
  • enhancing the quality of the education process and improving student’s learning experience;
  • encouraging the academic community to network, exchange experience and to cooperate.

Webinar on Recognition of Open Learning in Higher Education

EUA (European University Association) intends to discuss the issue of recognizing open learning at universities during the webinar entitled “Universities recognizing open learning: Are we approaching the worldwide open learning area?” on 17 December 14.00-15.10. The main topic will be whether skills learned in non-formal settings can be validated and awarded formal credentials, and how practice and experience with MOOC learning are likely to impact higher education learning and teaching in the future. You can register for the webinar at the latest by 16 December 15.00 CET via the following link. Participation is open to all members of EUA and EFQUEL (European Foundation for Quality in e-Learning).

Speakers will be Andreia Inamorato dos Santos (Joint Research Centre Sevilla), Kris Olds (University Madison Wisconsin), Kevin Guillaume (ENIC/NARIC and representative of Belgium/Wallonia in the BFUG) and Anthony Camilleri (VM-Pass project). Alastair Creelman (Linnaeus University, Sweden, and EFQUEL) will be the webinar moderator.
