Validation of learning outcomes of non-formal and informal learning

On 26 and 27 June, the partners of the project Building Learning Societies met in Loughborough (UK) in order to foster the development and promotion of a European campaign on validation, and also draw policy recommendations. Building Learning Societies is a project aiming to develop and implement a campaign for the validation of learning outcomes of non-formal and informal learning (NFIL).

The next important meeting of the partnership will be their final conference entitled “Achieving validation of learning outcomes – best practices and the way forward” on 14 October when the European Guide for forwarding participation and raising awareness on validation of NFIL will be launched. The conference concluding the project will present the best practices of validation of learning outcomes from national level and give a possibility to the education and training stakeholders, social partners, civil society organizations, and representatives of European Institutions to exchange views on the further steps in order to promote the validation and recognition of learning outcomes. The conference will be hosted by Julie Ward, MEP (UK Labour party, S&D Group).

TALOE presentation at the Synergy Strand of EDEN 2014 Conference

EU projects and practices – that display thematic cross sections with the Conference Themes of EDEN Annual Conference – were invited to introduce themselves during the Synergy Strand. TALOE took this opportunity, since the aim of the initiative – sharing of project outputs and research findings, offering the participants platform to develop new ideas and plans, to create new partnerships – supports the processes of the project: sharing of experiences and finding partners for the test period of the TALOE platform that is due to be launched in the end of the year.

Ildikó Mázár of EDEN had a short presentation about the project at the Fairground with the support of László Komáromi, furthermore the short project description is published in the Book of Abstracts. The purpose of the Fairground sessions was to raise attention to the different initiatives gathered in the room and to get acquainted with them.

Next day EDEN staff represented the project in two Working Groups: Ildikó Mázár participated at the WG4 (E-learning courses to support businesses and employment) and Barbara Lázár attended the WG1 (Inspiring teaching practices and competence development for ubiquitous learning) session where they had the chance to chat with the small audience about A) the importance of online course quality and having solid e-assessment strategies to support course delivery and B) the possibility of testing the TALOE platform next year.

One important observation having come out of the session is that many of the introduced projects could benefit in the future from the results and recommendations of TALOE, as a few initiatives were in progress of developing learning materials and services. Often the focus of these projects is content and structure rather than assessment, so the aims and goals, as well as the expected results of TALOE prove to be still timely, relevant and beneficial.

Many potentially relevant projects were collected during the sessions, hopefully there will be chance for a closer cooperation with them. If EDEN continues to organize Synergy sessions in the future, TALOE expectedly continues being involved.

TALOE was represented by Barbara Lázár of EDEN at the EIF/LINQ Conference to be held on 7-9 May 2014 in Crete, Greece. She presented the project in general and its achievements: the selection criteria of the e-assessment practices developed by the project partners, which focus on both the model type, the pedagogy and the techniques as well.

The EFQUEL Innovation Forum brings together leading experts from all fields of European and global education and training to survey the current and future challenges in quality development and innovation in e-learning.The 2014 Conference – Quality and Innovation in education and learning – took place in conjunction with the LINQ 2014, a leading annual European and international conference on Learning Innovations and Learning Quality.

TALOE participated with a workshop in EDEN conference

The TALOE project attended the EDEN annual conference held from 10-13 July 2014, in Zabreg, promoting a workshop session whose theme under discussion was innovative e-assessment strategies.

The project researched and selected e-assessment practices based on the criteria also developed by the project partners, which focus on both the model type, the pedagogy and the techniques as well. The workshop was an opportunity to discuss the selection criteria and the e-assessment practices. The participantes were split into groups and analyzed some case studies.

This workshop was led by partners Jüri Lőssenko (HITSA), Sandra Kucina (SRCE), Laszlo Komaromi (Denis Gabor College), Inés Gil-Jaurena (UNED, Spain) and Alfredo Soeiro (UPORTO).
