A successful leader of global creative firms, Lorenzo has advised Fortune 100 companies on design and innovation issues for decades. She is the former president of the global design firms frog and Quirky, co-founder of the mobile video insights firm Vidlet, a board member and adviser to several startup companies, and a columnist for Fast Company Co.Design and Medium. A thought leader on business and design issues, she speaks publicly about her signature leadership style and the power of empathy to drive business results.

As Director of the Center for Integrated Design, Lorenzo leads an advisory group tasked with integrating design studies curricula in the College of Fine Arts, the McCombs School of Business, the School of Information, the Cockrell School of Engineering, the School of Architecture and the Department of Computer Science in the College of Natural Sciences. New curricular options will offer students opportunities to study design from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Lorenzo also works to create corporate and industry partnerships that connect students and faculty members to local, national, and international firms seeking design-savvy graduates.

We are deeply saddened by this news, and remember his humorous, humble and masterful participation throughout the events.

The “Cabaret of Complexity“, a concerto for cars, drums, electric guitars and two radio stations, which Peter conducted, can be freely downloaded on our bandcamp website. A photo archive of his presence at futureplaces 2011 is at our flickr website.

She works in the University of Lisbon – Faculty of Letters and is an affiliated researcher at the Center for Post-Colonial Studies of the University of London. In 2014/15 she edited a volume of essays in Rodopi (Brill) on Paul Bowles literature and music – Paul Bowles, the new generaton, Do You Bowles? and an essay on music and sound torture in Music & Politics journal. Her projects include studies in invisibility and also the arts in north-africa. As a singer/musicien she has recorded for different labels such as Ananana, Sabotage-Zounds, Universal, Dargil, both solo and with her former pop-rock band Mler ife Dada. Currently she is giving recitals with works of Kurt Weill and Boris Vian, preparing sound installations and other sound art issues.

TIDES TO COME intends to engage creative thought on the impacts of climate change on urban areas. The focus will be placed on sea level rise and the challenges it poses to cities. The city of Porto, Portugal, will be taken as a case study for a hypothetical scenario where imagination and free creative yet conscious spirit will be the keywords of a global design and management proposal.

Participation is free but requires registration.
