Plataforma Digital PORTEFOLIO
Noémia Herdade Gomes
Leader
Digital platform that brings together, in a unique way, the training drawings produced in the context of the teaching of Architecture at the University of Porto (U.Porto), following the successive operations of restructuring the Architecture Course at different times: Escola de Belas Artes do Porto (EBAP), Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto (ESBAP) and Faculty of Architecture (FAUP). The collection and organization of virtual collections will be developed in two distinct time lines, one referring to the past period, ‘The Collection’ [1911 to 2014] and another, ‘The Portfolio’, for the present and future period [From 2014].

Device for Stored Products Protection
Joana Barbosa
Leader
This technology intends to exploit the potential of essential oil vapors for insecticide, fungicide and bactericide actions, using controlled release devices based on essential oils properties, which will increase the stored products longevity while maintaining their organoleptic properties.
This is a method for protecting agricultural dry products during storage that allows the increase of the storage period of stored products; avoids the use synthetic pesticides; avoids food intoxication; safe and efficient environmental protection.

Surface Water Sampler
João Sousa
Leader
It is the object of the present embodiment to construct a surface water sampler, being particularly useful for two distinct situations:
1) collection of surface water in rivers, at long distances from the shore;
2) collection of surface water near the coast, for example, outside the zone of greater turbulence of the water, and in altitude, as in cliffs.

Baterias redox de caudal
Marta Boaventura
Leader
The vanadium redox battery (VRB) (or Vanadium flow battery) is a type of rechargeable flow battery that employs vanadium ions in different oxidation states to store chemical potential energy. The vanadium redox battery exploits the ability of vanadium to exist in solution in four different oxidation states, and uses this property to make a battery that has just one electroactive element instead of two. For several reasons, including their relatively bulky size, most vanadium batteries are currently used for grid energy storage, such as being attached to power plants or electrical grids.
The extremely large capacities possible from vanadium redox batteries make them well suited to use in large power storage applications such as helping to average out the production of highly variable generation sources such as wind or solar power, helping generators cope with large surges in demand or leveling out supply/demand at a transmission constrained region.

Variable geometry ejector for cooling applications
Szabolcs Varga
Leader
In simplistic terms, an optimized component for air conditioning that allows adaptability to varying conditions of the surrounding environment. The increased efficiency achieved allows the application to air conditioners whose energy source is renewable (solar), contributing to a great extent for its sustainability.

Optimized Door-to-Door Logistics multimodal services
Alexandre Valle de Carvalho
Leader
In simple words: a new way of doing business in logistics by focusing on clients expectations (Logistics Service Clientes) and in the integrated collaboration between LSP (logistics service providers). Among many other key benefits, this innovative solution allows clients and providers to source (seach) of real-time optimized door-to-door multimodal service solutions and improves visibility across the logistics supply chain.

PondUp – Liking POND biodiversity and remediation potential to UP-scale ecosystem services
Ana Ferreira
Leader
PondUP refers to an ecotechnology, based on a set of scientifically validated and strategically defined management practices for wetland, such as ponds (wetlands until 2ha in size) construction and rehabilitation. This solution is based on the link between pond characteristics (structure and natural communities) and their capacity to retain/remove water pollutants, and their simultaneous enhancement.
At the same time, several other multi-functional benefits can also be promoted by implementing such measures, such as: mosquitoes control (disease control); water-flow and flood control; filtration and groundwater recharge; erosion control; carbon sequestration; educational and recreational areas for local citizens.
Additionally, ongoing cooperation with end-users and stakeholders (e.g. Municipalities) guarantees development of solutions to real and occurring problems, that can be further adapted and replicated. Contact with such entities intends to guarantee proper upscaling and market replication.

Ornamental Aquaponic System
Filipe Coutinho
Leader
Production of an aquaponic system for ornamental fish and plants (ex. orchids) without the use of any kind of sediment. The water from the fish after passing through the biological filter goes to the plants’ growth bed on top of the aquarium where the plants’ roots (partially under water) absorb the nutrients. Then the clean water goes back to the aquarium allowing for the maintenance of the water quality essential for fish. This eco-friendly products aims to help people who would like to have plants and/or fish in their houses but need a more self-sufficient system than traditional systems for plants and fish, but also for those who have plants and/or fish and also need a self-sufficient solution for when they leave home for a few days, either in vacation or for work.
